ExxonMobil is Considering a Grassroots Steam Cracker Complex near Corpus Christi, Texas
1/27/2025
ExxonMobil is currently considering the construction of a grassroots steam cracker and polyethylene complex that could begin production near the end of this decade. Calhoun County, Texas is apparently the first choice for this project, but the company is also considering other locations worldwide as well.
In a tax break application under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation Act (JETI) submitted in late 2024, ExxonMobil stated its intentions for this complex to be in Calhoun County with a focus on ethylene and polyethylene and a proposed capital investment figure of $8.6 billion USD. Early indications were for a possible start of construction by the end of 2025 with a startup at the end of 2030.
